Featured Role Model
Dalene Diaz
Darlene Diaz recently graduated from East Los Angeles College of Nursing and is preparing to take her NCLEX or National Council Licensure Examination to start practicing as a nurse. Being able to balance family and school was a struggle for Darlene, but she received support from instructors that understand the demands of college. When her mother was diagnosed with cancer, it was her teacher that helped her adjust her schedule so that she could give her mother the assistance and time that she needed. Her mother has always been there for her, as well as her older sister who is a nurse.
Out of the 3,000,000 registered nurses in the U.S., Hispanics represent only 3.6% even though Hispanics make up 17% of the U.S. population. Many Hispanic students and parents are not aware of the multiple opportunities that exist in the nursing fields.
