Hispanics in Nursing The National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) is profiling Hispanic nurses in a new radio campaign -- Carreras en Enfermería / Hispanics in Nursing -- to spark the interest of persons looking for rewarding and fulfilling career opportunities to grow professionally as a nurse.
Featured Role Model
Carolina Rodriguez
Carolina Rodriguez graduated from the Harriet Rothkopf Heilbrunn School of Nursing at Long Island University in New York. She believes there are too many misconceptions of what it means to be a nurse. For Carolina, being a nurse means to care for and maintain the health and well-being of all people. She believes in educating families and communities about how to care for themselves when they are sick. This was especially true in her own life. When her own father was dying of a terminal illness, Carolina realized she didn’t need to be a doctor to help him.
Out of the 3,000,000 registered nurses in the U.S., Hispanics represent only 3.6% even though Hispanics make up 17% of the U.S. population. Many Hispanic students and parents are not aware of the multiple opportunities that exist in the nursing fields.
